Post-Op Care

Post-operative care is a very important aspect of veterinary care. Your pet cannot speak and wants nothing more than to appease you, which means they do not always let us know that they are experiencing pain or discomfort. Pain management is used for surgery, injuries, and chronic painful conditions.

Pets that receive pain medication tend to recover from surgery more quickly, and have fewer complications.

At Sarival Animal Hospital & Grooming, we use combinations of medications in order to limit and control pain in your pet. After most surgeries, we will send you home with a few days of pain medication for your pet along with discharge instructions. However, every pet is unique, so your pet may need a different pain management plan. Consult with your veterinarian if your pet is showing signs of pain. Some indications of pain in animals include:

  • Limping
  • Difficulty or is slow to stand and lie down
  • Hesitant to move around
  • Crying out or whimpering
  • Panting
  • Flinching

Following your discharge instructions is important to help your pet recover as smoothly as possible. However, if your pet is showing signs of pain, please contact us as soon as possible. We’ll carefully examine your pet to determine if they are experiencing pain, and then work with you to formulate an appropriate treatment plan to relieve and manage their pain.
